  1. So, the person who accompanies a catechumen and/or a baptized but uncatechized candidate through at least the pre-catechumenate and catechumenate stages is called a “sponsor.” What do we call the person who accompanies a baptized and catechized candidate? I realize that the RCIA process is not for such candidates, but I think that a model of accompaniment is still fruitful for them. Can I call the person who provides this accompaniment a “sponsor” too, or should I call this person something else (perhaps a “mentor” or a “guide)?

  2. Hi Nicholas,

The person who accompanies a baptized and catechized candidate is also called a sponsor. But you could also use mentor or guide. Companion is another option.
