One last Alleluia before Lent

In the Middle Ages, the Church had a practice of “burying the Alleluia” before Lent began in preparation for the Lenten fast from the “A” word. To this day, the Church still refrains from singing “Alleluia” during Lent and waits in anticipation of singing it again fully at Easter.

The Church no longer buries the Alleluia, but it does spend the last week before Lent singing lots of Alleluias. So on this Mardi Gras, the last chance to sing an Alleluia, here’s one that all people, regardless of singing talent, can join in. Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!

    Hi I’m from the Archdiocese of Singapore and am an RCIA catechist in the Parish of The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. I came across this posting whilst researching for resources for our upcoming “Pairing” ceremony and “Rite of Acceptance” for our latest RCIA intake. Now I can share why the “Alleluia” is suppressed during Lent.
    I am looking for resources related to The Road to Emmaus” account, Luke 24 : 13-35, like skits, catechesis, etc. Any input will much appreciated.
